Mission Statement
The mission of the Chicago Poetry Center is to connect people with poetry, equitably engage poets with communities, and foster creative literacy in the city and beyond.
Description
Since 1974, The Chicago Poetry Center has championed artistic freedom, created platforms for marginalized voices, and ensured that people of all ages have access to their innate creative genius. Each year, our teaching artists reach more than 10,000 Chicago Public School students with dynamic, engaging programs that get kids excited about reading, writing, and expressing themselves through poetry. Our free monthly reading series and writing workshop bring together people from all over the city to experience poetry and build their own creative practices. Critical Conversations @ Work uses poetry as a springboard for meaningful discussions around crucial topics such as race, gender, sexuality, and more.
