Mission Statement
The purposes of The Vancouver Classic Guitar Society are to build a community among classic guitar enthusiasts, to educate and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of classic guitar music by providing performances of an artistic nature in public places, and by providing workshops relating to classical guitar music, to encourage study of the classic guitar, to enrich the culture of classic guitar in Vancouver, and to give opportunities for guitarists of all levels to meet and play together.
Description
Our organization follows a blueprint similar to dozens of other
guitar societies in North America. While we operate
independently from other societies in Canada, a few examples of
our extended "community" can be found in Victoria (The Victoria
Guitar Society), Calgary (Classical Guitar Society of Calgary),
Toronto (Guitar Society of Toronto) and Montreal (society de
Guitar de Montreal). Each year we organize a number of concert performances, educational and social events that build community and promote classical guitar appreciation. We pride ourselves on hosting an audience that is younger than the typical classical music
audience.
All VCGS activities are made possible through the diligent efforts
of our board of directors and a diverse team of active volunteers.
To date, all of our "staff" at the VCGS has been engaged solely on a volunteer base.
