Mission Statement
AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
Description
The AVID program identifies students who might come from historically underserved and underrepresented communities, who experience financial barriers to pursuing higher education, who will be the first generation to attend college in their families, and/or who experience a learning, opportunity, or social barrier to accessing or achieving college readiness. Students join the program as a class during their school day and work with their teacher, volunteers, and tutors to develop the skills necessary to not only be successful in high school but also to be independent, confident college students. Students learn how to stay organized, take quality notes, advocate for themselves, and problem-solve.
