Mission Statement
The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.
Description
Founded in 1865 in London by a Methodist minister, William Booth, as a way of serving the downtrodden unemployed and underfed homeless people by offering them soup, soap and salvation. TSA reached the US in 1878 in Philadelphia and spread across the country. With nearly 9000 corps in the US, we service every zip code. We are a church that is also a charity focused on providing social services and programs to support our needy neighbors. The Annapolis Corps covers a large part of Anne Arundel County and offers a food pantry, baby and hygiene bank, financial assistance (rent and utilities) and clothing closet, along with sports and music programs. We are known internationally for our disaster relief, housing and feeding the homeless, thrift stores, addiction treatment and rehab services, ministry and anti-human trafficking programs (to name a few). We are in 132 countries with over 15,000 corps
