Description

The Junior Bach Festival has been held on an annual basis since 1953. It is a 50501(c)(3) non-profit. It consists of a 20 member Board of Directors. There is a President, 2 Vice-Presidents, 2 Secretaries and a Treasurer. There is also a Business Manager. The mailing address of the Association is in Berkeley, CA. The Junior Bach Festival traditionally hosts a series of 10 in-person concerts in venues around the San Francisco Bay Area in March of every year, around the time of Bach's birthday (March 21). Recently, the Festival has also hosted a series of recorded concerts on YouTube. The concerts feature performances by those auditioners chosen by a impartial panel of judges. The quality of the performances is very high, featuring some of the most talented young musicians performing the timeless music of Bach. Young persons, age 6 to 18 may audition. The music of the Festival is performed in the form and on the instruments, or their contemporary counterparts, as originally indicated by Bach. Except for special occasions, the Bach repertoire will be restricted to works listed in the BWV catalog. Transcriptions and performances on modern or unusual instruments are permissible with approval of the Music Director.
