Mission Statement
Global Angel Charitable Organization is committed to providing financial support for medical transportation to those in need of treatment, to return home to family & friends, Palliative care, special last wishes and benevolent needs regardless of illness or age.
Description
Founded in Peterborough Ontario in 2007, GACO pays homage to Carole Courneyea, a nursing student who lost her fight with leukemia at the age of 22. Her mother, Gail Courneyea, is the President & CEO of Angels of Flight Canada Inc. established in Ontario in 1988. Angels is a medical transportation solutions company where Registered Nurse Case Managers develop and implement plans to move patients around the globe. They guide and advise GACO in order to move patients to where they need to be.
We have been able to assist hundreds of people who did not have the money to cover their transportation costs to get to facilities. Some cases involved only land transportation whereas others have required a commercial flight with an escort, or an air ambulance. These methods, going across Canada are extremely expensive. Governments do not pay these expenses.
With COVID 19, we have been unable to carry out in person fundraisers but we are now active in trying to raise $250,000 to fulfill our mission. We are engaging in a "Pulling for Patients" campaign with virtual pulls of a military tank in Oshawa, The Bluenose II in Halifax, and a Challenger 604 at Sunwest Aviation in Calgary. We are seeking online contributions in support of this event. We need to get the word out and that is why we're seeking local volunteers.
