The purpose of The Underdog Connection encompasses the following, to network animals in need predominantly from the southern United States to northern shelters and rescues accepting animals into their programs, to sponsor the animals in need which are comprised of strays, animals in city shelters, and animals in rural shelters and pounds who do not receive exposure to rescue partners, to raise funds to ensure the animals in need receive proper vetting and have transport to their new locations, to make donations to other animal welfare organizations that accept these unwanted animals, to raise funds to assist other animal welfare organizations with unexpected medical costs, to educate and promote the importance of spaying/neutering, how to prevent animal cruelty, and other activities that align with the purpose of the organization.
The Underdog Connection is a new Texas based organization seeking to make changes in the world of rescue that will help to alleviate the homeless animal population in Texas. It's a multifaceted organization with the following goals.
1. To build a website and database for Texas animals in need. These animals will be comprised of strays that have been rescued by individual citizens, animals in city shelters facing euthanasia, as well as small rural based shelters/pounds who do not get the exposure needed. The website will be accessible to all and networked extensively to receiving rescues and shelters in the north. The goal is that an interested northern rescue can click on an animal, learn more about it, and submit a form indicating interest in accepting the animal into its care.
2. To sponsor all animals posted on the website so that all medical costs and transportation costs are covered for the animal to reach its new rescue partner. We never want the cost of vet care or transport to be the reason for lack of acceptance.
3. To allow the general public to sponsor the animals on the site. The funds raised for specific dogs will be used in three ways. A portion comes back to The Underdog Connection, the rest is split between the intaking rescue and the originating rescue, to further their missions as well.
4. To raise money for animals in the care of other rescues that have extensive medical needs, surgeries, disease treatment, etc.
