Students everywhere have fallen behind in school due to Covid Learning Loss. This is especially true in areas already struggling with generational poverty. We go into THESE area schools and work directly with students who are suffering from factors like food insecurity, violence, trauma and illiteracy in the home. In order to have the most impact, we rely on a force of highly-trained volunteer tutors, who do very INTENTIONAL work on skills students need to succeed. If you love teaching, but don't love the record-keeping, behavioral problems and other things taking teachers away from their primary purpose, you'll love working with us! Most of our volunteers are retired teachers and professionals invested heavily in education. We pull students from class for 1:1, 15-20 minute sessions that have maximum impact. You may work daily, every week or several days per week in our NEW HAMPTON LOCATION (23663) and/or in NEWPORT NEWS, VA (23607). *We are a Christian Non-Profit. *EVERY volunteer undergoes an interview and background check. *Company-wide training in SEPT. Work either/all options EAST END, Newport News: PK and K from 8:30-10 AM, M-F 2nd Grade 9:40-11 AM T/TH Hampton City School in 23663 Zipcode K and 1st Grade 1st from 11:30-12:10 K 12:35-1:15 MORE SCHOOLS WANT TO BE ADDED to our program, but we need committed, weekly volunteers to keep up! YOUR 1:1 time serving in this way could be the reason a child learns to read! THAT could be life-changing for a person living in poverty! WE START OCT 2 and work until EARLY MAY (when student assessments are compared). Busy during daytime hours? You may also DONATE (we offer 65% VA Tax Credits)! Please tell your retired friends, company, group or high school students about this opportunity!

Mission Statement
At Newsome-Bailey Project, our mission is to positively impact the academic, spiritual, emotional and physical health of underserved students.
Description
The Newsome-Bailey Project is a Christian Nonprofit based out of Newport News, VA. We are committed tutors and volunteers who work together--with the student, family and school system--to equip and empower underserved students to succeed in school and in life. We do all this for FREE. We catch the students who are starting to fall behind in class and work with them 1:1 just outside the classroom, during school hours, to get them caught up. YOU could BE the difference! This is also an opportunity to MENTOR students.
