Board Member Job Responsibilities: Committed to the long-term interests of the organization and meet regularly to oversee and direct business operations, set policies, approve business decisions, evaluate executive performances, and fulfill fiduciary responsibilities. Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management Approving and monitoring the organization’s programs and services Enhancing the organization’s public image Assessing its own performance as the governing body of the organization Fundraising and resource development Holds members accountable for their tasks. Required Work Experience: Experience with administrative/leadership functions. A plus if you have experience with working for a 501c3 nonprofit organization, youth, and fundraising. FOR TREASURER: Must have a degree or experience in finance. Education: At a minimum, 3 years of working administrative functions. An associate's degree in business administration or a related major may be substituted for experience. The Youth Mentor position is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of youth ranging in age from 7 years to 16 years. Youth Mentors act as role models, mentors, and advocates to young people brought to The Better Me who faces a wide range of challenges. Essential Functions Provide youth with a structured, positive environment Coach/Mentor youth on demonstration of positive and appropriate behaviors Ensure the overall health, safety, and security of assigned youth Provide guidance, motivation, and emotional support Provides frank, honest, and constructive feedback Maintain confidentiality Maintains a professional relationship that doesn't intrude on the mentees personal life; does not expect to be close friends. Other duties are obligated Competencies Effective communicator, both oral and written Solutions-based problem solver Building the relationship Commitment to self-development Evaluation Required Education, Experience, or Eligibility Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent Must undergo screening process: application, interview, criminal background check, and reference checks. Mentors also complete initial and ongoing training on effective mentoring practices. Preferred Education and Experience One or more years of work experience in advocacy, youth, or mentoring position

Advisory Board members are non-voting members that serve a one year term. An Advisory Board member affirms the Better Me Mission Statement, and is committed to bettering our community and encouraging young girl's throughout society. All Advisory Board members must be 21 and up. Advisory Board members would attend and participate in events, community service, and meetings once a month. Advisory Board members are encouraged to participate in our activities and meetings to better understand the organization. Why become an Advisory Board member? Becoming a Advisory Board member offers both personal and professional benefits: · Business developmental opportunities · Gain community organizing, advocacy, and leadership skills · Network with other young people and community leaders Eligibility Requirements for Advisory Board members: · Must be 21 and up · Commit to The Better Me meetings and community events (no more than 20 hours per month) · Have a demonstrated passion for change and community leadership · Able to make a year commitment. The Better Me is committed to building beautiful, strong, and positive role models through an enrichment program. Our goal is to provide guidance to our youth in Columbia, SC.
