The Brooklyn Hospital Center is seeking community minded volunteers who would like to be Spiritual Care Visitors to our patients who have been admitted to the hospital. You can be a part of the healing process. Spiritual Care Visitors, visit with patients, talk to them, read to them. All of this may seem very simple, but it can mean the world to someone who is in the hospital. Note: only people who can be open to all faiths/religions or no particular faith/religion should apply to this opportunity. This position is to support our patients, not to introduce them to a specific belief system. Volunteers of all faiths and religions are welcome. The Brooklyn Hospital Center has been Helping Keep Brooklyn Healthy for over 175 years. We are committed to serving the Brooklyn Community and Greater New York City. We are centrally located in historic Downtown Brooklyn, NY and close to many of the major subway lines.

The Brooklyn Hospital Center participates in the Reach Out and Read Program. We are looking for volunteers to dedicate some time during the day to reading to and with children who come to our Children's Health Clinic. We are looking for volunteers who have worked with and love children and believe in the power of reading in children's lives. Volunteers must feel comfortable engaging children and reading out loud. Ideal Volunteer Worked with children Strong Reading skills Ability to engage children Days and Hours: must be able to commit to 1 day a week for two to three hours. The Brooklyn Hospital Center is looking bright, committed individual/volunteers who are passionate about patient safety and would like to work with the Infection Control Department to help prevent infection and improve patient outcomes. Opportunity Description Healthcare or clinical experience preferred, but is not required Good oral and written communication skills Able to interact with patients and staff Conduct IC related rounds on all units Participate in the Hand Hygiene Program Computer/data entry skills preferred Assigned other IC related duties as appropriate Training Training will be provided by the IC Department This position is great for students or individuals interested in public health, medicine, nursing or other areas of health care.
