Thank you for taking time to consider joining our Planning Committee for Family Values For Life's Annual Back to School Celebration! We've been doing this on the East Side for the last 13 years, and last year raised nearly 3,900 backpacks to give out to community members! By joining the Planning Committee, you are committing to monthly whole-team meetings from March - July, with possibly weekly meetings in August until the event on August 21st, 2024. You are also committing to support at least one of the following areas, which will include developing or supporting a team to carry out the tasks outlined. This document is not the end-all be-all, and supporting these roles may include additional problem solving or work to complete tasks. You will be carrying out additional meetings as needed, with support from the event coordinator. Meetings may be done in person or virtually! Clothing It's important for students and families to be dressed ready for a successful start to the school year! This role includes sourcing NEW clothes to give to attendees, and determine the best flow for the event. Hot Food Serving Working with a cooking team to serve a health meal to people attending the event! Grocery/Food Distribution We want to ensure that attending families can take home a grocery box full of food! Taking this area may mean assisting in determining the foods that families take home, finding boxes and materials, and determining the day-of flow for food recipients. Cleaning & Sustainability This event takes place over 2 blocks! We want to keep our actual event and neighboring blocks clean, given the number of attendees. Join this team to help figure out how we can best be caring for our event space. Additionally, volunteers present during the day are EXHAUSTED by the time we wrap up - would love to have a separate team to assist with the clean up. Security This is a massive event! We need people who become very familiar with event and layout, and can direct attendees & volunteers. You will work in recruiting more security volunteers, work with SPPS and SPPD safety teams, and support with event flow. Registration We need to account for key information that we need to report on post-event! You will work with a team and the event coordinator to determine best methods for data collection, recruiting volunteers, and more. Community Resources We've previously had anywhere between 40-50+ Community Resources join us for this event! This number took a hit following COVID changes, and we'd like to work to get back to this number so that attendees can meet the resources available to them! This is great if you enjoy connecting & networking, and also supports raising funds for school supplies! Entertainment We also want to offer some fun activities to children participating! You will help organize & recruit entertainment options (a DJ, large inflatables, youth dance or singing crews, etc.) Backpacks & School Supplies This is the core of our event! Those who join this area will help raise backpacks, shop or find school supplies, and work in tandem with registration and event coordinator to make sure there are enough packs and materials for the day. Permits & Community Communications We want to continue fostering a great relationship with our neighbors on the East Side, as well as ensure we are completely set to go with the City! This subteam will help getting permits signed and communicate with the surrounding blocks about this event. Marketing Work with our team to get the word out about this event! Whether that's social media or posting flyers around :) Volunteer Manager If you enjoy recruiting more people to support a great event, and want to get a touch of everything, this is the role for you! You'll work closely with the event coordinator to determine the actual day-of event's needs, and directing volunteers that day.

Family Values For Life-Weekly Community Food Distribution Individuals and families often turn to Family Values For Life in crisis and stay to build stability. Sudden issues like job or transportation loss or medical crises cause food and/or housing insecurity, which all weaken the stability of a household. In addition to providing the community support during crisis and resource assistance, Family Values For Life offers basic needs (food and essential items) support. These services are designed to relieve immediate stress for low-income neighbors while also helping them build a more stable foundation for their future. Age requirement: Volunteers under 18 must have a parent/guardian with them. Dress Code: Due to safety concerns, all volunteers must wear close-toed shoes (no sandals or flip flops) and clothes appropriate to work in a warehouse environment.
