Mission Statement
The Makhosi Foundation is a sanctuary dedicated to preserving indigenous cultural knowledge & conscious spiritual traditions. We aim to raise African indigenous wisdom traditions to the setting of an ashram, temple, or monastery as a form of transformative social justice, cultural reclamation, & restoration of humane dignity.
Description
Indigenous Shamanic Healers Unifying Ancient Traditions
We started as a small team of diasporic healers who were called back to their ancestral traditions through the ancient arts of initiation to transform into cultural therapists, advocates, and wisdom keepers in our communities.
As founders of this organization with a decade of practice and teaching, we have watched those seeking healing struggle through the generational loss of spiritual elders, cultures, & holistic remedies, through mental emergencies that disrupt people’s lives, families, & institutions, and through the minimal access to ancient knowledge or safe spaces of study/retreat to integrate deep healing into their lifestyles.
Our initiations brought forth connections to elders and communities in the indigenous lands of South Africa, Colombia, and a growing global network. Through our own experiential studies and collaborations with these communities, we have been able to educate by exposing people and communities in America to socio-cultural transformative justice and restoration through the cultural practices of indigenous knowledge systems.
