Mission Statement
Senator Jill P. Carter aims to be a stalwart advocate for the health, education, safety, and justice of Baltimoreans. Through astute policy-design and diligent oversight of state agencies, Senator Carter has proven effective in advancing the cause of equity and transparency in government operations. As a former Public Defender and only the third black-female attorney to serve in the Maryland General Assembly, Senator Carter is especially passionate about ensuring fairness in the criminal and juvenile justice systems, ending police brutality and instituting vigorous solutions of community-oversight of law enforcement.
Description
First elected to the Maryland General Assembly in 2002, Senator Carter has established herself on a leading voice of change in Maryland. Serving as the Chair of the Joint Committee on Federal Relations, long-time member of the Judicial Proceedings Committee, and Senate representative to several outside agencies, she has proven a reliable partner to advocates and lawmakers alike. Always keeping the cause of community as the foremost priority, Senator Carter is proud of the hundreds of concerned constituents she has helped navigate through the cumbersome bureaucratic process and to serve such a beautifully-diverse electorate.
