Role description: The Editorial Director develops and oversees execution of a comprehensive digital strategy across AIGA Portland's online platforms to align with and strengthen broader organizational goals. This leader manages the website and the overall tone and voice of the organization. The Editorial Director works closely with the Content Director and Marketing Director to ensure the AIGA Portland voice and direction is integrated with overall content and marketing efforts and that all content has a cohesive voice. Responsibilities include: Providing strategic editorial direction, both short- and long-term, and overseeing the creation of all written copy to ensure that is accurate, captures the AIGA Portland brand, and creates an engaging experience for our audiences Managing the editorial workflow process including reviewing copy, managing volunteers, and overseeing the production of content. Developing and maintaining a tone of voice guide Approve or provide feedback on AIGA Portland copy produced by other directors/creators as needed to follow the AIGA style guide. Develop and maintain a Director’s handbook with pertinent information to handoff at the end of tenure to incoming Director Enlist, manage, and mentor volunteer copywriters Recommended Content Committee Chairs These are non-board members/volunteers (serving for one to two years) that we recommend you manage in order to be successful in the position. Must have strong skills in: Adobe Creative Suite Nice to have, but not necessary. Experience in Wordpress / / Eventbrite / / Basecamp / / Google Docs / / Airtable Have a business or creative network. You need to know how to use most of the following program (or find a committee chair who does!) Adobe CC, Basecamp 3, Eventbrite, G Suite, Slack, and Wordpress Shared Responsibilities of the Board Attend mandatory internal events, monthly board meetings, and retreats Show up and represent at AIGA Portland events (we suggest attending as many as your schedule allows) Proper personal time-management in order to complete the responsibilities outlined in this job description Ensure sponsors and partners are treated well and represented at events and online content Demonstrate understanding and proper-use of AIGA brand guidelines Actively engage in communications and meetings with representatives from other creative groups, firms, businesses, or other like-minded organizations that will create sponsorships and partnerships with AIGA Portland Be able to speak about what AIGA is and promote AIGA membership Actively document processes and resources to handoff and onboard the next director in this position Must properly represent the chapter and adhere to the AIGA Standards of Professional Practice What You Get as a Board Director An official AIGA Portland email Access to AIGA resources, connections, and volunteers Free attendance at AIGA Portland events A seat at the table and voting rights during monthly board meetings Tenure An official Board Director is committed to serving a minimum of a two-year term. Board Directors are encouraged to continue serving additional terms once their initial two-year term ends. An individual can not serve more than three consecutive terms (a maximum of six years) on the board. You are responsible for organizing and updating your process, contact lists, and work. These will become resources that you will use to onboard the incoming director prior to vacating the position.

Role description The DEIA Advisor is a critical role at AIGA Portland, aimed at embedding diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) into the heart of the chapter’s mission and activities. This role focuses on leading and guiding DEIA initiatives, ensuring that these principles are intricately woven into our strategic planning, operations, and community engagement. The DEIA Advisor is dedicated to promoting diversity within design education, discourse, and practice, significantly enhancing the role of design in society. Collaborating closely with the executive team, including the VP of Membership and VP of Programming, the DEIA Advisor plays a pivotal role in integrating DEIA across all chapter endeavors. This position contributes to executive committee meetings, offering strategic DEIA insights and fostering a unified approach to chapter objectives. DEIA responsibilities include: Develop DEIA strategies and policies, in partnership with the board, grounded in both local needs and national guidelines. Spearhead impactful DEIA initiatives, aligning with the mission of AIGA Portland and the broader community's needs. Participate in national DEIA discussions, sharing knowledge and practices within the chapter. Identify and build relationships with diverse organizations for potential partnerships and sponsorships. Act as a DEIA resource, promoting education and opportunities within the design community. Drive community engagement in DEIA efforts, expanding the chapter’s reach and influence. Offer strategic support for AIGA's broader initiatives, such as The Transparency Initiative, providing guidance and thought leadership. Executive Team responsibilities include: Collaborate with the VP of Membership and VP of Programming to infuse DEIA principles into membership and programming activities. Establish connections with diverse creative groups, DEI professionals, and design-related organizations to foster collaboration and joint initiatives. General board responsibilities include: Create a DEIA Playbook for the chapter, outlining actionable strategies, policies, and initiatives focused on equity. Develop and maintain an Equity Scorecard to evaluate and improve the chapter’s participation and impact in community events. Design grant documentation and outreach materials to support DEIA initiatives and partnerships within the Portland community. Desired skills, traits & experience Demonstrated leadership in DEIA strategy, frameworks, and implementation. Excellent networking and communication skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders. Highly motivated, independent, and organized, capable of translating high-level goals into specific actions. Proficiency in Google Docs, Sheets, Wordpress, Eventbrite, Basecamp, and Adobe Creative Suite. Passionate about making a significant contribution to the design community and advancing DEIA within it.
