DARE TO DREAM: KCMO Angels is a foster care non-profit that was created to help empower children and build sustainable foster homes. We are a community of people that walk alongside foster children and their caretakers by offering consistent support through intentional giving, relationship building and mentorship. Our solution to the foster care crisis is the Love Box and Dare to Dream Program(s). Our program(s) utilizes a trauma-informed, wrap-around service model that strengthens relationships between foster families, foster youth and bio-families. Our volunteers are everyday people that sponsor a local foster family with monthly care packages meeting practical needs while spending quality time with the whole family building positive community. You are changing the way kids and parents experience the foster care system. At KCMO Angels we believe in the power of love and the value of friendship and positive role models for kids in foster care. We want to connect people passionate about making a difference in the foster care community to our most vulnerable children that have experience neglect and abuse and the selfless parents who care for them. Our Dare to Dream program is an opportunity to individually serve an aged-out or at risk to age out foster youth (ages ranging from 11-21). Our mentors are advocates, coaches, role models, valued friends, and available resources. The heart of the Dare to Dream program is walk alongside youth as they navigate through life's challenges. We know they need the wisdom, advice, encouragement, and community that mentors can provide. Mentors meet practical and emotional needs as well as provide guidance through developmental milestones. The hope is for youth to be engaged, feel supported and equipped to navigate life. As an approved mentor in the program, you commit to meeting with your mentor every other week, set goals, and work together with your mentee to achieve your dreams. These relationships will hopefully last a lifetime, but the program is a year commitment. Meetup might look like: Grabbing coffee to help them create a resume and follow up the next meet up to ask where they applied. From there you might help them pick out an interview outfit and go over practice questions. Meetups can happen anywhere but usually it is at the youth's home/shelter or a public location. We also encourage our mentors to plan fun outings such as treating the youth to dinner at a local restaurant, movie theater etc. You will be amazed at how the simple act of telling them, "I believe in you", "You are special" and "You are going to do great things" can change their path completely. The Dare to Dream Program is really a conduit to become a mentor or friend, who offers love, motivation & encouragement. The heart of our program is connection and relationship. Please understand that there is an expectation not only from our mentors to make this commitment, but that by enrolling in our program, youth are committing to building a relationship as well. We do expect that both our youth and mentors will be treated kindly, with grace and respect. Apply here today! Connect: Intake Form (socialsolutionsportal.com)

LOVE BOX: KCMO Angels is a foster care non-profit that was created to help empower children and build sustainable foster homes. When volunteer groups sign up and are trained, they are assigned a specific foster or kinship family in their area. The group commits to making a personal care package and delivers them to each child in the home as well as the foster parent(s) each month for 1 year. The financial commitment will vary based on the needs/size of the family. Items for kids in the boxes usually include items (clothes, shoes, a favorite snack, games, activity etc). Some boxes may include household supplies and food items (toilet paper, paper towels, laundry soap, snacks etc). Others may include staple pantry items, food or gas gift cards. Large scale needs such as furniture, vehicles etc., are outside of the program parameters to be fulfilled by the Love Box team. These needs can be communicated from the family to the volunteers, and volunteer’s partner with their assigned Case KCMO Angels Case Manager to locate resources to try and fulfill these needs. Every month the foster family works with their Love Box Leader to decide on a delivery date that works best for both parties. Love Box meetings can take place anywhere but usually it is at the foster family’s home. We also encourage our LB groups to plan fun outings as part of the delivery, treating the family to dinner at a local restaurant, or take the whole family to the park, movie theater etc. The Love Box is really a conduit to become a mentor or friend, who offers love, motivation & encouragement. The heart of our program is connection and relationship rather than just providing a box. Please understand that there is an expectation not only from our volunteers to make this commitment, but that by enrolling in our program, families are committing to building a relationship as well. We do expect that both our families and volunteers will be treated kindly, with grace and respect. Apply here today! Connect: Intake Form (socialsolutionsportal.com)
