Mission Statement

Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission is dedicated to minimizing the effects of poverty by connecting individuals to opportunities and resources that support a secure future.

Description

In the United States and its territories, Community Action Agencies (CAA) are non-profit organizations which were founded by the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act to fight poverty by empowering the poor as part of the War on Poverty.

CAAs are intended to promote self-sufficiency, and they depend heavily on volunteer work. Each CAA is governed by a board of directors consisting of at least one-third low-income community members, one-third public officials, and up to one-third private sector leaders.

Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission (NOCAC) is one of over 1,000 CAA's in the US. Our primary service area is Defiance, Fulton, Henry, Paulding, Van Wert and Williams counties. However, we also provide publicly funded childcare in Hancock, Hardin and Auglaize counties. We offer innovative programs and services in the areas of Early Childhood Education; Emergency Services; Utility Assistance; Homelessness and Housing; Nutrition; Home Weatherization and Repair; Publicly Funded Child Care; Free Tax Preparation and many more.
