The King Center seeks outgoing and friendly volunteers to greet visitors coming into the Book Store and Resource Center and help provide a welcoming presence. We are looking for someone who can engage visitor groups with a friendly and welcoming demeanor, as well as provide support for our Guest Services and Book Store and Resource Center staff. Main Responsibilities Greet visitors as they arrive for their visit Direct visitors to where they need to be/go Counting/ Keep Track of Visitors Provide information about upcoming events Assist with any other needs for Guest Services and The Books Store and Resource Center Minimum Requirements Ability to communicate and interact with a diverse audience Customer Service Skills Ability to engage visitors and volunteers with a friendly and welcoming demeanor Good communication skills Involves standing, light lifting and moving Must maintain a neat and professional appearance Basic computer skills Possible phone work, not required Time Commitment Total time requirement: one, 2-hour shift /month for 3 months Shift and time details Monday- Sunday 12pm-2pm or 2pm-4pm Please sign up if you are interested to attend the next orientation. The Beloved Community Awards recognize national and international individuals and organizations that exemplify excellence in leadership, pursue social justice, and who are helping to create the Beloved Community, as envisioned by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Responsibilities include: Greet guests with a friendly and enthusiastic attitude as they arrive at the event venue. Provide a warm welcome, offer assistance, and ensure guests feel valued and appreciated. Direct guests to the appropriate areas, such as registration desks, coat check, or event facilities. Provide clear and concise instructions, helping guests navigate the venue smoothly. Serve as a knowledgeable resource for guests, answering questions about the event, schedule, etc. Provide accurate information and assist with any special requests or concerns. Help manage the flow of guests, ensuring orderly entry and exit from the venue. Assist with crowd control during peak times, guiding guests to designated areas and maintaining a safe and organized environment. Identify and provide special attention to VIP guests or honorees, ensuring they receive appropriate recognition and assistance. Direct them to designated VIP areas or connect them with event staff as needed. Address any guest concerns or issues that may arise and general inquiries. Collaborate with King Center staff and volunteers to ensure the smooth operation of the award show. Assist with any additional tasks, such as distributing programs, collecting feedback forms, or providing general event support. Attire - Volunteer Attire: Professional attire required. NO legging. NO jeans. Wear comfortable shoes. Training - Training for roles will take place on January 6th, 2024, at The King Center in person.

Docents are trained volunteers who will serve as guides and will be stationed throughout the King Center’s campus to provide information to visitors. Docents are an essential link between the public and The King Center. Docents will effectively engage visitors of all ages and backgrounds in inclusive and informative conversations about The King Center’s mission and vision, adding to the overall guest experience. Requirements * Passion for History, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Mrs. Coretta Scott King’s work * General understanding and knowledge of the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, and the modern Civil Rights Movement and related subjects * Must be at least 18 years old * Complete and submit a Docent Application * Complete an interview * Complete orientation and training * Must have good verbal communication skills * Be able to relate warmly to people from diverse populations * Have a passion for serving others through volunteerism * Must submit to a security/background check, upon request * Speaking a second language at a conversational level is a significant plus, but not mandatory Click here to apply: Docent Application (jotform.com)

Provide assistance to guests with special needs or mobility limitations, ensuring they have a comfortable and accessible experience. Be proactive in identifying and reporting any potential issues or concerns to the appropriate personnel Collaborate with fellow volunteers and event staff, maintaining effective communication and teamwork to address challenges and ensure a cohesive event experience. Responsibilities may include: Assist in setting up event spaces, including the stage, seating area, backdrop, lighting, and audiovisual equipment. Help arrange tables, chairs, and other furniture according to the event layout plan. Collaborate with The King Center staff and fellow volunteers to ensure accurate placement decorative elements, such as banners, signage, flowers, and props. Greet attendees warmly as they arrive at the venue. Assist in guiding attendees to their designated seating areas. Help guests locate amenities such as restrooms, refreshment areas, and designated accessible seating areas. Assist in the preparation and organization of swag bag materials, including bags, promotional items, brochures, and samples. Attire - Volunteer Attire: Professional attire required. NO legging.
