Mission Statement

Wildflower is dedicated to serving children and families who have experienced the death of a parent. We provide the gifts of camp, enriching experiences, and consistent, long-term support to help families strengthen their resilience and create positive opportunities for the future.

Description

It is hard to imagine anything more devastating to a child than the loss of a parent. Wildflower strives to help families in which one or both parents has died with a unique approach, starting with the gift of camp! Founded in 2004, we serve grieving families in Greater Boston.

Wildflower’s program of placing grieving children in supportive camp communities, with mentors, counselors, and opportunities to master new skills, facilitates healing and increases their resilience. We strive to identify the best-fit camp for each child, holding their interests and the needs of the entire family in mind. We place our campers in traditional day or overnight, specialty (sports/arts/travel), and/or bereavement camps throughout New England, the U.S., and internationally.

Wildflower also provides advocacy, tuition negotiation, and financial support to make summer opportunities a possibility to help families rebuild their lives after loss. Other programs include community events, crisis intervention, emergency support, tutoring, college planning, and tickets to sports/ cultural events.

Our Family Liaison Team is a keystone of our program. Each family is paired with a family liaison who works with the family by lending a listening ear, helping identify camps, and providing support.

Since 2003, we have provided over 1000 camp experiences. In partnership with camps and other programs, we have provided nearly $2.8 million in camp tuition relief, along with additional services, for our families.
