Mission Statement
Founded in 1977, The Fabric Workshop and Museum (FWM) is the only non-profit organization in the United States devoted to providing artists of all disciplines the opportunity and technical support to experiment with fabric and new materials in a unique laboratory setting. It is Philadelphia's largest organization committed to new visual art, addressing contemporary art from concept through production, presentation, education, publication and preservation.
Description
The Fabric Workshop and Museum is a site for artists to experiment with an unfamiliar medium. We promote design excellence in every day objects, and support inner-city art education programs, providing a creative outlet for young people while training them for jobs. The organization has grown to include the a museum where the public could see the creative process and view completed work. The FWM has developed from an ambitious experiment to a unique contemporary art museum with a significant permanent collection documenting the living history of 20 years of artistic activity, a highly acclaimed on-site and touring exhibition program, and extensive regional and international educational outreach through tours, apprenticeships, lectures and internships.
