Mission Statement

To inspire hope and improve the quality of life for adolescents and young adults living with mental health concerns through education, support and advocacy. EDUCATION We promote awareness of mental health concerns through events and communication to those concerned with mental health, to provide hope for a brighter future and reduce the stigma related to mental illness. SUPPORT We assist in funding mental health resources to promote access to treatment, sustainability of programs and stabilization for those in need. ADVOCACY We will continue to work with other organizations to promote discussion and programs related to mental health treatment to save more lives, reach more people and achieve our mission.

Description

Ali's Hope Foundation was created in 2007 by Joe and Helen Gallagher after they lost their daughter, Ali. Ali suffered from schizoaffective disorder until she took her own life. During Alyson's struggle, Joe and Helen realized there were less than adequate resources available for adolescents and young adults struggling with mental health concerns. Ali's Hope Foundation began raising money to assist 15 years ago. Ali's Hope Foundation now coordinates a wellness club in each of our 9 Seminole County high schools. Ali's Hope volunteers walk along-side students in the wellness club, with a focus and goal of opening the discussion about mental wellness, coping skills, encouraging and educating others about mental wellness and educating everyone about the resources available to those who are struggling with mental health concerns. At Lake Mary High School, between November 2021 and June 2022, the students in the wellness club created 5 podcasts! The students came up with the topics to discuss, the media in which to get the message out there and realized just how much their voices can change their world. In addition to the work done in the schools with the students, Ali's Hope finds numerous ways to empower the students and spread their voices throughout our community.
