Mission Statement
What We Do: Our Mission To promote the welfare of companion animals through protection, advocacy, education, and by example. Our VisionA humane home for every adoptable companion animal in Napa Valley. As a premier advocate for companion animals in Napa County, Napa Humane leads the evolution of our communities to where:Every companion animal is a wanted animal, residing in a humane household. No companion animal will be subject to abuse or neglect. All companion animals have access to fundamental health care. Lost companion animals swiftly find their way home.Increased animal understanding allows people to form life-long, healthy, loving bonds with their companion animals.Sheltered animals are the first choice for those seeking a companion animal.Companion animals are protected in the time of disaster. All those dedicated to the welfare of domestic animals work collaboratively. Who We Are: All of Napa Humane's programs and services are about prevention; finding solutions to the bigger problems affecting pet health, wellbeing, and pet homlessness.Spay/Neuter Saves Lives! Low-cost, high-quality, high-volume, spay and neuter programs are essential to decreasing cat and dog overpopulation and shelter euthanasia. Napa Humane performs up to 5,000 spay/neuter surgeries per year, serving not only the general public but also the Napa County Animal Shelter and area rescue groups, which helps keep adoption fees low and, therefore, animals adopted more readily. We offer affordable vaccinations against preventable illnesses such as Parvo, plus Rabies vaccinations to keep a healthy pet and people population. We also provide low-cost microchipping so lost pets can swiftly find their way home.Humane Education When you teach a child to be kind to animals, you help pave the way to a brighter future for all living beings. Animals benefit because the next generation has learned to treat them with respect and compassion, reducing instances of animal cruelty. Children benefit because learning about compassion and empathy early in life builds moral character, reduces violence, and builds a sense of empowerment and responsibility. And, society as a whole benefits when its members are more caring towards each other and the animals who live among us. Napa Humane??s humane education program teaches children and adults alike the traits needed to be caring, thoughtful, respectful citizens: responsibility, caring for one another, trustworthiness, knowledge, respect, and a positive attitude. We reach about 5,000 children each school year with our classroom presentations about responsible pet care, and pet safety, and our sponsored subscriptions of KIND (Kids In Natures Defense) News Magazine.Companion Connection Our behavior helpline is a lifeline for people facing difficulties with their pets. We counsel and advise hundreds of folks each year in order to keep pets in their homes rather that turned out, surrendered, or abandoned.
