Mission Statement

The CFC has always been a place for imagination, where creativity, knowledge, and opportunity thrive. We are ensuring systemic barriers to access of its programs and events are obliterated - the CFC is the future of storytelling.

Description

The Canadian Film Centre (CFC), a charitable cultural organization and educational institution, was founded in 1988 by award-winning, internationally acclaimed filmmaker Norman Jewison (In the Heat of the Night, Moonstruck). Jewison established the CFC to meet the need for a centre for advanced film studies in Canada, where Canadian storytellers could learn to master the medium of filmmaking and ultimately command a place on screens around the world. Originally named the Canadian Centre for Advanced Film Studies, the organization opened its doors with one film program attended by 12 residents (directors, writers and producers).
The CFC is now home to a range of intensive, hands-on programs in film, television, screen acting, music, and digital/immersive media that empower, shape and advance opportunities for Canadian creators and entrepreneurs working in screen-based industries.
