Mission Statement

The mission of the Children’s Hospital New Orleans (CHNOLA) volunteer services department is to provide dedicated, caring volunteers to serve our children receiving medical care, their families, visitors, and employees. Volunteers augment the work of hospital personnel so that they have more time to care for patients. Volunteers elevate the patient experience, make an invaluable contribution to the quality of patient care, and help make our hospital continue to be an extraordinary place for children to receive their health care.

Description

Volunteers have been an important part of Children’s Hospital since it opened its doors in 1955.

We provide volunteer experiences in both clinical and non-clinical areas.

Non-clinical areas are the Gift Shop, Playrooms, Teen Lounge, Amy’s Art Cart, Comfort Cart, Spiritual Care, Parenting Center and Materials Management.

Clinical areas are the Post Anesthesia Care Unit, Outpatient Dialysis Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and acute care nursing Units.

We also collaborate with the following community programs to provide additional services for our children in the hospital, Visiting Pet Program, Songs for Kids Program, and Angel’s Place.

There are several opportunities available for community volunteers to pool their talent and energy on special projects to benefit our young patients and their families. The Development Department can help groups find volunteer opportunities at one of our signature events, including Boos at the Zoo and other fundraising events and projects.
