Mission Statement

To empower and promote the health and independence of people with special challenges - whether it be a disability, a life circumstance, or a need for connection - through equine-assisted activities and the therapeutic power of our horses.

Description

We're a nonprofit charitable organization - federal 501(c)(3) and 1101.01(a)(2)(A)(i) tax-exempt in Puerto Rico - operating in Isabela. We provide individualize therapeutic horseback riding and equine-assisted activities for people with disabilities or special challenges including trauma, empowering them to help themselves, their families and their community. We give compassionate care and training for our equines, who are rescued horses; we always seek to improve our facilities, and to directly improve the lives of people with disabilities (e.g., autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, PTSD, depression and anxiety, amputation, cognitive and learning disabilities, and dementia) and those who suffer from the effects of trauma (e.g., veterans, children who have been abused, and victims of violent crime).
We started services in 2019, had several months when we were shut down during COVID and are currently serving 20-25 clients each session, many of whom are returning clients. We have a grief support group (Healing with Horses and Each Other), sessions where we train people in compassionate equine care, equine-assisted learning based on a client's individual life goals, and both private and group adaptive riding lessons. We also offer hippotherapy for communication disorders, where speech/language disabilities are treated with the aid of a horse!
