Mission Statement

To preserve and advance the art of hand embroidery - a globally practiced craft.

Description

SFSNAD is a non-profit organization dedicated to the education and preservation of hand embroidery and needlework objects.

We do this by offering high quality, educational and exhibition opportunities that honor imagination and creativity, with the goal of advancing the knowledge of needlework and textile arts from around the world.

SFSNAD offers pathways for students of all levels - from beginner to advanced. Students can select coursework based on their interest in a technique, an educator or their level of skill. Our Collection and Research Library offer opportunities for deep study and our exhibition spaces allow students to experience their artwork exhibited in a professional manner.

In addition to offering beginner to professional level courses, we provide low cost and free arts education programs to our local and virtual communities. These communities are multigenerational, transitional and global - and include some individuals experiencing social isolation or marginalization. Stitching is increasingly becoming recognized as an effective way to combat depression - its flow - often calming the mind and reducing stress. Donations help us to keep Community based programming fun, innovative and meaningful.
