Do you have one hour a week to provide companionship and conversation to someone at the end of life? Your gift of time is precious and will be immensely appreciated. Frequently Asked Questions: What does a patient care volunteer do? A PCV is assigned one or more patients (based on availability) and provides companionship and conversation. Most PCVs take one patient. How often should I plan to volunteer? The general expectation is one hour per week for a patient. Are there assigned days and times? Hours and days are flexible, but we try to avoid mealtimes. What if I must miss a week or go on vacation? That is not a problem. If you have to miss, just let your contact for the patient and Stillwater Hospice know. How do I know what to do at my visits? We will provide training in communication and visits among other activities. It also depends on what the family is requesting, and we will communicate those requests before you accept the assignment. Will I be asked to give physical care for patient or give medications? No. PCVs provide emotional care only. If a physical or medical issue comes up, we have a 24-hour number to call and we will send someone to address the need. Can I change to a different volunteer role in the future? Absolutely, there are several ways to support the patients and families at Stillwater Hospice. These include Administrative, Over-the-Phone, and Music Enrichment volunteers. Do I need clinical experience? No specialized training is needed. Want more information? Complete the form here: https://forms.gle/D1ZdJaTefre53Wxj6
