Mission Statement

At the NEIFF we aspire to create an inclusive and innovative film festival in the North East of England. We aim to bring the community together while attracting global audiences to promote the local area. On top of that, we wish to showcase local talent and act as a bridge for independent filmmakers to showcase their work and network with people in the industry. The Festival has a broad scope but an inclusive narrative. This will be underpinned by our choice to include the standard international submission categories as well as more diverse, collaborative and inclusive ones such as F - Rated Films, Best LGBTQ+, Best Student Film, Low/No Budget Films, Most Diverse Work and the first ever VisABLE category which is to represent disability in all its forms. We aspire to ensure everyone feels included and well represented.

Description

The NEIFF first commenced in 2021, set up by festival director Lisa-Marie Tonelli. After a successful debut year, the NEIFF became IMDb and BIFA qualifying, opening up a world of opportunities for aspiring filmmakers. We aim to be Bafta qualifying in the near future with our sights on becoming a prestigious festival with Oscar qualifying status. We are the UK's fastest growing film festival; being the only festival to spread an entire region, the first ever festival to sign up to the BBC 50/50 Equality Project, the first ever festival to be awarded a Raising Film Ribbon and one of 80 festivals worldwide to adopt the F-Rating.
Additionally, we have environmental and sustainability policies in place as well as being signed up to the One Tree Planted initiative, ensuring our organisation is carbon negative.
