Mission Statement

To foster and improve the cultural environment of the City of Norfolk and surrounding areas through presentations of live on-stage theatrical productions. We are dedicated to providing high-quality art, affordable and accessible to the community, and in making available training and inspiration for all interested in the theatre and its associated work.

Description

Visit the Chelsea neighborhood of Norfolk, and you will be welcomed by the bold red facade of Little Theatre of Norfolk. While this intimate 210-seat playhouse was initially built in 1949, Little Theatre of Norfolk has been a continuously operating community theatre since 1926. Back then, when the Little Theatre Movement was spreading across the country, the group operated out of a former horse stable on York Street downtown. After purchasing our home on Claremont Avenue in 1949, (renovated into a 186-seat playhouse with a brand new floor in 2010), Little Theatre of Norfolk has grown to produce full mainstage seasons, provide educational workshops, community opportunities, and offers an annual scholarship.
Everyone you see on and off the stage volunteers their time to keep Little Theatre of Norfolk alive. There are a variety of ways to volunteer, even if you have no experience- performing, production, building, painting, ushering, promotions, and more! While we welcome volunteers of all ages, some opportunities may be limited to adults age 18 and up. Groups seeking volunteer hours are welcome, as well as students who need volunteer hours for school. We can also coordinate with colleges to provide internship opportunities.
