Mission Statement

HELP (Hospital Elder Life Program) is a preventative approach used to decrease delirium in hospitalized older adults. Delirium is a temporary state of confusion resulting in poor health outcomes when it is not recognized and treated. Through participation in daily activities provided by HELP volunteers, patients will maintain or maximize their physical and cognitive functions while admitted.

Description

At Community Hospital we're deeply committed to enhancing health and well-being in the communities we serve. Alongside the Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) team, the Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) is focused on providing patients with quality care with the help of volunteers.

HELP volunteers have the unique experience of assisting with patient transfers, mobilizing patients, and providing therapeutic activities. Therapeutic activities may target leisure, reminiscence, relaxation, sleep hygiene, and cognition, to name a few. HELP volunteers will be exposed to a variety of conditions and observe the intricacies of acute care practice. As a volunteer, you will also interact closely with an interdisciplinary team of health professionals.

If you are looking for a weekly chance to make a difference in the lives of senior citizens then HELP is the volunteer opportunity for you! We are looking for volunteers Monday-Friday for 2-4 hour shifts during the hours of 10am to 6pm. Apply at https://volunteer.ecommunity.com/ and designate HELP on your application. We look forward to having you join us!
