Mission Statement

Courteously and compassionately promote the health, safety and welfare of citizens and animals in our community by honoring the human-animal bond, treating each person and animal as an individual, and providing humane care and positive outcomes for unowned/unclaimed animals.

The Chico Animal Shelter is part of Animal Services, a section of the Chico Police Department. The shelter houses and cares for all stray dogs found within Chico city limits as well as sick or injured cats. All animals are provided necessary vet care to make them adoptable, and animals that are not adoptable but have a good quality of life are placed in fospice care with vet care. All vet care, including spay/neuter for adoption is provided through donations.
