Mission Statement
To practice and promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreach in the community Rockbridge Animal Alliance is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 organization founded in 2014. Our goal is to work with the public and support other animal related organizations to improve the lives of Rockbridge area pets and homeless dogs and cats. We are established to aid in community outreach, humane education, and community assistance programs with an emphasis on the importance of spaying and neutering. We work closely with Cats Unlimited, RARA, and other local organizations. We do not receive any taxpayer/government funding and rely on grants and donations to carry out our mission.
Description
Supporting the human-animal bond in our community, from providing pet owners with assistance to establishing fair and non-discriminatory practices in our town, is crucial. Our initiatives include current projects, resources for the community, volunteer opportunities, and more. All of our initiatives are designed to provide a humane home for all pets, homeless animals, and people, in Rockbridge County and the Cities of Lexington and Buena Vista.
Our Pet Food Pantry provides free pet food to low-income families so that they do not need to choose between feeding themselves or their pets. This decreases the amount of pets being surrendered to local shelters to be possibly euthanized. Our low cost co-pay spay/neuter program is offered to clients and is available upon submission of an approved application. We construct and provide animal shelters for outside dogs and cats. We provide some monetary support for pet wellness checks in collaboration with local veterinarians. We are looking to expand our services to home bound seniors with pets and work with local youth in classroom settings to teach the Red Rover curriculum to 1st to 5th graders which focuses on animal empathy and responsible pet ownership.
