The Society of Sharing, a charitable non-profit organization, is seeking compassionate individuals like you to become Friendly Visiting Volunteers. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to provide much-needed emotional support and companionship to seniors and adults living independently in their own homes. Position: Friendly Visiting Volunteer Location: Downtown Toronto Time Commitment: Minimum 2 hours per week, between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, minimum commitment of 1 year As a Friendly Visiting Volunteer, your role will be to offer one-on-one emotional support and companionship to seniors and adults with physical disabilities who experience loneliness and social isolation. By spending quality time with them, you will contribute to enhancing their overall well-being and promoting social connection. Roles & Responsibilities: As a Friendly Visiting Volunteer, you will have the following responsibilities: Establish a regular two-hour weekly visiting time with the client, considering their convenience. Provide emotional support and companionship while being sensitive to the client's limitations and any sensitive issues. Consult the Program Coordinator for advice when unsure how to address client requests. Establish a regular two-hour visiting time each week that is convenient for both you and your client. Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion. Report any significant changes in your client's health, lifestyle, or living conditions to the Program Coordinator. Requirements: To be eligible for this volunteer position, you should meet the following requirements: Be 18 years old or older. Possess sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by older adults. Exhibit patience, compassion, and a desire to help vulnerable and isolated seniors. As a facilitator, you will play a vital role in creating a warm and engaging environment where clients can connect, socialize, and enjoy meaningful interactions. Position: Socialization Group Facilitator Location: Downtown Toronto Time Commitment: Approximately three hours per week, be between 1:30 to 4:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, minimum commitment of 1 year Roles & Responsibilities: Arrange snacks and drinks for gatherings Set up the meeting room prior to clients' arrival Provide assistance to clients in wheelchair positioning or preparing beverages Decorate the room for special occasions and holidays Serve drinks and snacks to clients upon their arrival Engage in conversations with clients, fostering introductions and connections Offer to play games or crafts to interested clients Requirements: Be 18 years old or older. As a Telephone Reassurance Volunteer, check in with our clients through a weekly telephone conversation to ascertain their physical and mental well being, engaging in lively conversation, and providing a sense of security, all while demonstrating kindness and respect. Due to physical frailty, disabilities such as vision or hearing impairments, and cognitive challenges, our seniors face difficulties in attending their medical appointments and accessing food, resulting in a rapid decline in their health and quality of life.. By becoming a Medical and Grocery Shopping Volunteer, you will play a crucial role in helping seniors attend their medial appointments and access groceries with dignity and confidence. Position: Medical and Shopping Escort Volunteer Location: Downtown Toronto Time Commitment: 2.5 to 5 hours per escort visit, once a week, between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday- MInimum commitment of 6 months *TTC tickets and tokens can be provided to volunteers for escort appointments. Role and Responsibilities: As a Medical and Grocery Shopping Volunteer, you will assist seniors in reaching their medical appointments and grocery shopping destinations (or do grocery shopping on their behalf) safely and comfortably. Your responsibilities will include: Escorting seniors to and from medical appointments and/or grocery stores. Utilizing transportation methods such as walking, public transportation, Wheel Trans, or taxi service. Ensuring the safety and security of the seniors during the transportation process.
