Our Care Buddies are fighters on the frontlines of disability justice. They are breaking down barriers, showing up authentically, and changing minds. Welcome to Limitless, where you can meet our clients every weekday, 8-5. When you come, you won't hear typical speech patterns. Instead, you will hear each individual express themselves uniquely. You won't see people moving about in usual ways. You will see folks rolling on wheelchairs, rocking as they read, and flapping their hands when they are happy. You won't hold many typical "Hi, how are you?" conversations, but you will feel a very genuine, fulfilling connection. Our clients have Down Syndrome, Autism, and other intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). But just because they have a diagnosis does not mean they are any less unique, curious, or hopeful about their future than you are. Like you, they also are working towards goals and trying to build new skills. Like you, they love meeting new people and making friends. When you volunteer--whether you're tossing a ball, making art, or doing zumba with your new friends--you're changing the statistics. You're changing minds. You're challenging the status quo. Many adults with IDD live in a separate world from those without disabilities. When you come in, you are building a bridge between the disabled and non-disabled worlds. Whether you come once this year or every week for a month, your time here will transform you into someone with a deeper understanding of the difficulties that some people and communities face. No matter where you go, you will bring this experience with you into the world. You will become a disability advocate and ally. Contact us for more information about when and how to volunteer.

At Limitless Disability Services in Woodstock, GA, interns have the opportunity to make a direct, lifelong impact on some of the most vulnerable people in our communities. Our Enrichment Program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) builds skills and fosters community. Many people, even experts in IDD, fall into the trap of defining special needs adults by what they CAN'T do; when you come, we show you how to see all that these individuals CAN do. As an intern, you could learn to challenge them to grow and support them in their needs. You would be doing this by assisting the Program Coordinator to develop lesson plans for clients. You would be creating, executing, and potentially managing activities like exercising, fine motor skill crafts, outings, readings, and more. The internship requires and builds qualities like creativity, analytical thinking, compassion, and responsiveness. Unlike our Care Buddies, who focus on being fun, the Program Coordinator Intern looks deeply at what each client is like, what they need, and how we can challenge them. For example, you might meet a young lady who excels at sorting colored legos and enjoys working quietly. Your task would be to think: What skills does this woman have that she can build? How can we make it fun? Maybe you will plan a collage of her lego pieces and teach her some crafting/fine motor skills as you teach her how to do the task. Afterwards, you will feel the satisfaction of knowing that without you, this individual wouldn't have had such an enriching moment. As you watch each individual grow, you will track their successes, record-keep, reflect, and communicate and ask questions to keep developing the people, the program ... and your skills! This is a professional development role designed to give you experience that can help launch you into a Direct Service, Case Management, or Non-Profit Programming role. We want to see our interns grow and succeed because we know your success is our success, and our success translates to the success of members of the disability community! Contact us if you want to learn more!
