Mission Statement

In the words of our residents...hope heals. Georgia’s Friends provides programs and services in the Charlottesville-Albemarle community to help women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction and co-occurring mental health challenges. Georgia’s House, the signature initiative, provides hope and healing through a safe, therapeutic and structured home for women in recovery.

Description

Georgia's Friends was created in 2006 after our friend, Georgia, died following a long struggle with alcoholism. We believe that Georgia would be alive if she had a safe house in which to recover and heal from her disease.

We founded Georgia's Friends, receiving non-profit 501 (c)(3) status in 2010. Our vision, a healing house for women, would provide them with a supportive living environment where they could maintain sobriety and build a new life after treatment or incarceration.

Georgia's House, the signature initiative of Georgia's Friends, opened its doors in 2015 and continues to provide a safe, structured living environment for women in the early stages of recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction.

Since our founding, we have provided over 18,300 safe bed nights to women fighting addiction. We have been designated a Safe Space by SafeCville and Cville Pride, and we are the only recovery residence in the area certified by the Virginia Association of Recovery Residences (VARR).

At Georgia's House, we are just getting started. You can help us do more.

Our volunteers deliver a variety of skills and services to our women, and we gladly welcome new volunteers to our program. Volunteering with Georgia's Friends is a unique experience, in that you can really customize how to get involved. Are you a top chef? Cook a meal for our residents. Become a member of our angel program, drive a resident to an appointment, help with yard clean-up; the opportunities are endless!
