Mission Statement

Preserving and restoring the natural environment and developing community leaders.

Description

Northwest Service Academy (NWSA) is an environmental service and leadership development organization that partners with more than 130 community-based organizations, government agencies and schools to address significant environmental issues in communities across Oregon and Washington.

NWSA has two centers, the Mt. Adams Center, located in Trout Lake, WA and the Lower Columbia Center, located in Portland, OR.

Together with countless community volunteers, NWSA's 200+ AmeriCorps members strengthen NW communities through hands-on service that focuses on restoring watersheds, conserving resources, enhancing public lands, increasing community awareness of environmental issues and by engaging volunteers of all ages in environmental service opportunities.

NWSA member and leader positions start each fall, winter and spring, with full-year positions starting in the fall and winter, and six-month positions starting each spring.

NWSA typically posts positions to its website at least four months prior to their start date. Applicants can also find out about upcoming opportunities through NWSA's monthly recruitment newsletter (send an email to nwsa.recruitment@esd112.org with the word update in the subject line).

Member benefits include approximately $990/month, insurance, $4725 scholarship, training opportunities, loan forbearance & childcare allowance.

NWSA partners with schools, community organizations and government agencies. Potential project partners are invited to submit proposals each year. Potential partners are encouraged to check NWSA's website for specific proposal timelines, but can expect that proposals for fall positions are typically available in early spring while winter and spring proposals are typically available in mid to late summer. NWSA staff are available to speak with applicants about potential partnerships throughout the year.
