Our Streets was founded in June 2020, inspired by the swelling Black Lives Matter movement and motivated by the convergence of Portland’s escalating housing crisis and widespread racial justice outrage during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our founders, Mitchell Asemota and Mikah Takashige, quickly formed our movement into a BIPOC-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization focused on feeding houseless and low-income residents while mitigating environmental racism and fostering youth development.
The mission of Our Streets is to provide a voice for the underrepresented while improving quality-of-life for underserved members of urban communities. Our fluid approach allows us to address many of the injustices and challenges our neighbors experience. We strive to alleviate:

* Houselessness
* Citizen Oppression
* Suppression of Youth Engagement
