Mission Statement

Most students in rural Ghana did not even touch a computer until Senior High School. A missed chance to create digital jobs in Africa. To change this, we bring vital IT & Soft Skills to the heart of the local schools. We empower our students for a digital future - and an Africa Beyond Aid.

Description

Since 2018 Grow Ghana provides free Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training to Junior High School (JHS) students from the government schools in Kokrobite and Langma. By now we have trained over 200 students on a weekly basis in basic IT skills and soft skills at our locations after their regular school day.

Grow Ghana teaches the practical skills of what the students learn about ICT in school. The students use the Raspberry Pi, which is a small and portable hardware device that enables people of all ages to explore computing. We follow the curriculum of Raspberry Pi Foundation and combine topics the students learn in their regular classes with ICT. On top of that, we expose students to a youth coding project (SCRATCH) so that they can explore the digital world and build their own projects in a playful way. This empowers them to develop and grow as well as get exposed and pre-qualified for a formal job in the future. At Grow Ghana, we believe that playful IT training with a focus on coding is the ideal tool to unlock and grow the vital skills of young students.
