** Disclaimer - This is a low impact volunteer position ($0.00), an opportunity to become involved in the greater good, help children and sharpen your marketing and communications skills. The success of Dear Future can depend on the successful applicant. At Dear Future we are all volunteers that believe that every child deserves a better education...everywhere. The (End Period Poverty) Social Media Specialist works closely with the CEO and Communication Committee to create engaging content for Dear Future social media presence, including keeping social media channels updated, brand-focused, and seeking out new social media avenues and ways of connecting with audiences. The candidate will represent and participate in the sustainment and growth of one of Dear Future programs: End Period Poverty, Period! - For teenage girls, having access to period products is essential. Without them, they can miss school, be embarrassed and humiliated, and even get health problems. Unfortunately, many girls around the world face what is known as "period poverty." This means they cannot afford to buy period products or do not have access to them. As a result, they suffer in silence; and this lack of access results in the absence from school as they don’t want to risk bleeding through their clothes. Some girls resort to dangerous solutions like using rags, leaves or even used sponges to not miss important days of school, testing dates or other important events; in turn increasing the exposure to becoming victims of dangerous other health risks. https://gdc.unicef.org/resource/how-does-period-poverty-have-negative-effect-teenage-girls The selected volunteer will help Dear Future in maintaining a presence on social media with weekly media releases that have thought provoking and encouraging information about the problem and our actions. The end result is donors and followers that understand our involvement in this problem and our efforts to grow this project within our programs. The selected volunteer will have an understanding of the social problem and compassion to help and get on the solution side of the challenge. This is a great opportunity to practice your creative skills, help children worldwide, enhance your resume and be a part of a promising future. Key details: Volunteer position Part time work, minimum hours to upkeep social media (may require more time at beginning when setting up social media/communications plan). We are building something new, participation and collaboration is required. All levels of experience will be considered. ABOUT DEAR FUTURE AND THIS PROJECT www.dear-future.org DF was founded in March of 2022 as a small nonprofit focused on bringing education and health to children living in extremely remote and/or extreme poverty. Our primary focus is to provide education materials to children living under these conditions and our locations of work are in the Andes of Peru and two villages in Uganda. As of March of 2023 we have provided educational materials to more than 800 children and sanitary pads to over 500 girls in Uganda. The End Period Poverty, period! program was launched in October of 2022 when we learned about the difficult and dangerous situations girls living in extreme poverty put themselves in when facing period challenges. Learning about the amount of school missed due to these circumstances and the fact that we had an opportunity to participate in the solution. We partnered with a local nonprofit in the village of Mayuge, Uganda called Empathy Children Initiative and begun providing sanitary pads to girls in the villages. Since then we have provided over 500 girls with access and we hope to grow this program as large as we can, to support more and more girls in Uganda and anywhere we can reach with this help.
