THE GOAL OF THE VET-TO-VET PROGRAM: The Veteran to Veteran Program aims to pair recruited veteran volunteers with hospice patients who have been identified as veterans. Once paired, veteran volunteers have the unique ability to relate and connect with each patient thereby creating an environment where life review and healing may occur. Veterans are a part of a distinct culture with their own common language and experience. When veteran's interact, their common language and experience can form a strong relational bond. The camaraderie created between veteran's has proven to be supportive for all involved. THINGS TO EXPECT: Assist veteran's in reminiscing/telling life stories. Take part in pinning ceremonies related to the We Honor Veteran's Program. EXPECTATIONS: Volunteering with Compassus can be flexible and based on your availability. If you have just 2 hours a week or up to 4 hours a day, your compassion and experience is needed and appreciated.

Having someone to share a story or listen to or maybe just be. Bringing a smile and laughter to someone's day. Helping with office tasks. Maybe you have a life experience that can help someone else. As a volunteer you work in own community on a schedule that fits your availability.

Hospice pet therapy is so much more than a simple visit with an animal. Animals and their handlers have the unique ability to bring transformative joy and comfort during a time when your outlook on life may be at its most grim. Hospice pet therapy, using the longstanding bond between humans and animals, brings joy, humor, unconditional love and soothing companionship to those on the end-of-life journey.
