Mission Statement

In 2014, a group of community members set out to explore how to fund the creation of an LGBTQ+ community center in Maine. Over time, they developed a financial plan they believed was viable - one that could both establish a community center and secure its sustainability. In 2015, a Board of Directors formed. One year later, they opened the doors to the Equality Community Center at 511 Congress Street in downtown Portland. This landmark event marked the completion of Phase One of the vision.

Description

The Equality Community Center is a nonprofit organization that houses LGBTQ+ and social justice oriented non-profit organizations that are working to achieve equality for various marginalized communities in Maine. The ECC also provides programming and access to resources to address the needs of the local LGBTQ+ community; programs are offered on-site and online.


Seeking volunteers to assist with daily operations of the Center, including serving as Greeters, Event Staff, Office Assistants. Also have opportunities for on-going involvement with event and program planning, social media, grant writing and fundraising, and photography.
