Mission Statement

The primary purpose of the Busungu Community Center is to provide a proper education to children from 3-6 years old in the Nyakasangwe region of Tanzania. This area is underserved and lacks government funding to educate the over 400 children living in this region, with only two nursery schools currently to serve their needs. Nyakasangwe is on the outskirts of Dar Es Salaam, the commercial capital of Tanzania. As well as providing an education, our long term objective is to create a community center in which all children in Nyakasangwe can have access to our center’s resources, including books and computers. In doing so, we can maximize their abilities and imprint long-standing positive change in this region.

Description

The Busungu Community Center is located in Dar es Salaam Tanzania. The goal of our organization is to use local and international resources to offer educational services to the people of Tanzania. We currently have a daycare and nursery/pre school in our center. We are looking to expand the services we offer to our community. Services such as teaching computer skills, music, library services and English tutoring. We embrace volunteers from different backgrounds and with different skills. We offer our volunteers training to smoothly transition into our organization.

Our organization is four years old. We have already held two graduations where our students move on to primary school with a good foundation in English which will help them with their educational future.
