Mission Statement

Our mission is to share our love of music by engaging and enriching our community, through the evolution of the orchestral art form. To this end, we seek to create musical experiences accessible to all, and to build community relationships that will transform our cultural dialogue and landscape.

Description

The Summerville Orchestra has a vigorous season of five full-orchestra concert programs, featuring the 75-member orchestra along with a guest soloist. Regularly during the year, members from the orchestra perform in free events around town, including the Encore Series held at Coastal Coffee Roasters (ranging from jazz to classical to pop); and Music Director and Conductor Wojciech Milewski holds regular Music Chats with Wojciech at the Dorchester County Public Library.

We rely upon our wonderful volunteers to help staff concerts as ushers and other. Anyone seeking more involved volunteer opportunities can work with the Friends of the Summerville Orchestra on their activities to support the orchestra. From time to time we also seek interns.

Finally, our musicians are primarily volunteers, and we regularly hold auditions to increase our ranks.
