Hello and thanks in advance for your interest in our non-profit. We started this non-profit to help our community understand the impact of their food choices while getting them access to healthier food choices. There are many areas in Hampton Roads that don't have access to local grocery stores that have fresh fruits and vegetables in their community so they are going to fast food restaurants, dollar stores, liquor stores, convenient stores like 7-11 and Wawa to buy food. A lot of these foods have high fructose corn syrup, sugar and additives to prolong shelf life and they are not good for them. Mega stores like Wal-Mart, Target, and Major grocery store chains won't put a store in the community because the community is considered poor or lower class. A lot of the people in these communities don't have cars and use public transportation to travel. So, they may walk to the store or go to the stores that are close and choose form the limited options.
Our goal is to share information and offer better food options to the families with children, the elderly on a fixed income and low income single moms in the these community by doing events, teaching classes, and passing out free nutritional foods like fresh cold pressed juice, smoothies, and meals to help them gain vitamins and minerals from healthier choices.
