Mission Statement
Dreamcatcher Initiative (DCI) is a youth development nonprofit with a mission to eliminate the hopeless state of being in underserved, systems-involved youth populations by creating pathways and programs that will help them achieve their dreams and realize their goals potential. Our vision is to improve youth outcomes, reduce recidivism, and decrease community violence by inspiring a new generation of empowered and hopeful leaders. We offer a holistic approach to job training and career-building programming that goes beyond the training itself. We work with youth on their personal development and well-being to ensure that they have the basic needs and coping skills necessary to thrive in the pursuit of a successful career.
Description
DCI’s DreamCutz is a program that provides vocational barbering training to justice system-involved young men. This program began in 2019 in partnership with Comm Corp. DreamCutz is designed to reduce recidivism by promoting entrepreneurship through barbering. Participants receive hands-on vocational training from a licensed, certified barbering instructor. As a part of this program, these young men will also participate in our men’s group, a series of workshops in which these young men develop and practice skills designed to promote their social-emotional development. E-Dreamersoffers a job skills training program for youth to learn and practice the skills necessary to build their own business and succeed as entrepreneurs. The program is named Education Dreamers (E-Dreamers) and aims to empower youth to achieve personal and financial freedom. Over 16 weeks, youth ages 15-25 participate in the following career-building activities
During these activities, participants will learn how to create a business plan, create a business bank account and budget, create a logo, network, and develop and deliver a compelling business elevator pitch. POWER (Preparing Our Women for Everyday Readiness) is a series of workshops that help young women address the ebbs and flow of everyday life and learn skills designed to help them achieve personal and financial freedom. Program participants will leave the program with an arsenal of practical life skills, increased confidence, and a broadened knowledge of opportunities.
