Mission Statement
Our mission is to save lives by meeting the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer
Description
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan G. Komen that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. She launched Susan G. Komen in 1982 and our vision a world without breast cancer. Our investments in breakthrough research, advocacy, and patient support have increased early detection and helped develop more effective treatments which has helped decreased the breast cancer mortality rate in the U.S. by 41% since 1989.
Komen is recognized as a groundbreaking leader and is the only breast cancer organization with four decades of experience - funding more breast cancer research that any other non-profit, and programs like our Helpline, Treatment Assistance Program, Advocacy and Stand for H.E.R. (Health Equity Revolution).
While we have made tremendous strides to ending breast cancer, there is still work to be done!
