At Kindred Hospice, we provide volunteer services for our patients and families. Volunteers are the heart of our organization and many of our patients are looking for companionship and to see a friendly face every week. Your presence and effort makes a big difference and can truly light up their day! Volunteers also help the caregivers receive some much needed respite from caring for their loved ones. Volunteers are needed to provide: Companionship/socialization reading to the patient playing cards listening to music Sharing interests and life stories These simple activities can provide much needed social stimulation and valuable respite for caregivers. Volunteers are needed in the Oakland area to help patients who are nearing the end of life. Patients have a variety of needs that can be filled by a caring volunteer! Volunteer visits may include: - Companionship, sitting and reading to the patient -Playing cards, listening to music or sharing interests and life stories. -Providing much needed respite to the caregiver: while the volunteer is with the patient the caregiver can take a break and get some rest. - Provide assistance with meals or chores in the home. Volunteers are placed with patients who live near them. Training is provide. Touching a life, easing someone's pain---the personal fulfillment of knowing you made a difference --can be life changing! Volunteers are the heart of Kindred Hospice and they provide a wide range of services that help to maintain or enhance the special "Quality of Life" of patients facing a terminal disease, as well as their loved ones! Volunteers are needed to provide weekly visits to patients and/or their caregivers and provide services such as: Companionship and socialization Deliver comfort gifts to the patient's home --such as flowers Serve as an advocate for the Kindred volunteer program and share ways in which we can further enrich the life of the patient. Provide respite and support for the family and other caregivers. Read to patients, play music, or games and just be there to listen and be there for patients who need companionship. Duties include: Visit patients on a regular basis;distribute donated items, maintain confidentiality, abide by and support the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of Kindred Hospice. Participate in training as needed and required, keep careful record of hours served. Must be willing to submit a volunteer application, screening and volunteer orientation and training. Visits can be any day of the week. We are flexible and will work with your schedule and interests. We welcome you to join our team and help make a difference for those in Hospice care. Description
Administrative Volunteers Provide administrative/clerical support including filing, answering phones, mailings, etc. Some tasks can be done from your home. Bereavement Volunteers Provide bereavement support to families through supportive phone calls, mailings and visits. Visitor Volunteers Make friendly visits to people on hospice care in their homes or long-term health care facilities, and provide companionship and support to the patient and their families. Tuck-In Volunteers Make weekly telephone calls to check on patients/families to assess their needs. Specialty and Professional Volunteers Volunteers who want to provide specific support including music, vigil, art/crafts, life review video, spiritual support, handyman, etc. Also, those who want to share professional skills such as art and music therapists, beauticians and barbers and other professional services (volunteers must be certified, licensed or registered in the professional specialty).
