5-Eleven Hoops is looking for enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to help neurodivergent children unlock their potential through sports! Why: As a Youth Sports Instructor Volunteer, you'll play an essential role in creating a fun, safe, and inclusive space for children on the Autism Spectrum to build confidence, teamwork, and physical skills. Through sports like basketball and other activities, you'll be fostering growth, connection, and joy for participants and their families. Who: 5-Eleven Hoops is unlocking the strengths and full potential of kids with Autism through sports in supportive and inclusive spaces. What to Expect: Assist with sports drills, games, and activities--primarily basketball--designed to promote confidence, teamwork, and physical development in neurodivergent children. Create a fun and inclusive environment that encourages social interaction and personal growth. Collaborate with other volunteers and staff to organize and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate sessions. Provide positive reinforcement and adapt activities to meet individual needs when necessary. Support setup and cleanup of equipment and materials before and after sessions. What's Required: No prior experience necessary--new volunteers can shadow trained instructors until comfortable. A passion for working with children, especially those on the Autism Spectrum or with developmental differences. Patience, strong communication skills, and a positive attitude. Basic knowledge of basketball or other sports. Willingness to undergo a background check upon application. Previous experience in coaching or working with neurodivergent individuals is helpful but not required. Minimum age requirement: 16. Time commitment: Consistent participation is encouraged to build meaningful relationships with participants, but there are no strict minimum requirements. Basketball sessions: Tuesdays from 5:00-7:00 PM (Long Beach) and Saturdays from 9:30 AM-12:30 PM (Long Beach). Bowling sessions: Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 PM (Lakewood). What to Expect: Capture high-quality images of events, activities, and workshops, focusing on participants and their unique journeys. Tell the organization's story through photography, highlighting moments of inclusivity and growth among neurodivergent children. Assist with live streaming events to share key moments in real-time on social media. Collaborate with the social media team to provide photos and videos for promotion, including stories, posts, and event highlights. Ensure photos align with 5-Eleven Hoops' branding and mission while meeting quality standards. What's Required: Basic photography skills and access to a camera or smartphone with a high-quality camera. Interest in photography; high school students or those eager to learn are encouraged to apply! Willingness to assist with live streaming and capturing content for social media. Ability to work in diverse settings, including outdoor events and indoor workshops. Strong attention to detail and the ability to capture meaningful moments. A passion for working with children, especially those on the Autism Spectrum or with developmental differences. Time Commitment: Flexible hours, with most events occurring on weekends or evenings. What to Expect: Plan, organize, and execute community events, fundraisers, and special activities hosted by 5-Eleven Hoops. Coordinate logistics such as venue selection, vendor management, volunteer assignments, and event scheduling. Develop detailed event timelines and promotional materials in collaboration with staff. Ensure smooth execution by collaborating with volunteers and community partners to manage all event details. Provide on-site support during events, including check-in, guest assistance, supply management, and last-minute problem-solving. Share ideas for future events, helping to create an engaging and memorable atmosphere for participants. What's Required: Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to detail. A passion for supporting neurodivergent children and fostering inclusive communities. Ability to collaborate with staff, volunteers, and vendors in a team-oriented environment. Flexibility and problem-solving skills to address challenges during event planning or execution. Previous event planning experience is a bonus but not required.
