Mission Statement
The CoderDojo movement believes that an understanding of programming languages is increasingly important in the modern world, that it’s both better and easier to learn these skills early, and that nobody should be denied the opportunity to do so.
Description
CoderDojoSTL is a local chapter of CoderDojo, a movement of free programming clubs for kids from near 7 years old to 17 years old.
One of the unique aspects of CoderDojo is that we don’t follow a classroom layout - instead, we ask the young people who attend (we call them 'ninjas’) "what do you want to learn" and see our job as to facilitate that desire. From web design to robotics to app development, we want to empower kids from all backgrounds and aptitudes to learn the "how" and the "why" behind much of the technology they already use daily.
Our local organization is made up entirely of parents and developers who volunteer their time and talents to keep the dojo running smoothly. If you’re interested in joining the movement, we’re always looking for a few more hands - whether you’re a techie or not, there’s something you can do!
