You will be a tutor/mentor to new immigrants in our English Conversation Club. Newcomer immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers will learn and practice English, but also learn about local culture! All participants build intercultural relationships based on trust and open communication! The groups meet every Saturday, 11 am-1pm How does the Conversation Club work? Newcomers meet with native-speaking conversation partners and participate in discussions as a group, or one-on-one. The activities are facilitated by program staff or a volunteer. It can be focused on one main topic, or questions, or shared stories. As a volunteer tutor and mentor, you can participate in the following groups: English Conversation groups /intermediate/- Life Skills and Cultural Integration Topics English for Beginners groups- survival English Academic tutoring for new immigrant children Career planning and job search mentoring Community and family information and resources- mentoring College planning and Preparation- mentoring and tutoring Citizenship preparation Background check is required and it costs $15 Marshall Student Center 4103 USF Cedar Cir or 24 USF Holly Drive/look for big outdoor parking lot on Holly Drive/ Tampa, FL 33620 United States 'Background check is required. Virtual Opportunity
This is a great opportunity for someone who has experience teaching English to language learners, refugees, immigrants , or students in TESOL programs who want to practice teaching English language learners. This is a rewarding and fulfilling experience to change the life of a new immigrant or a refugee and help them adjust to their new life here. We offer online English groups and individual tutoring for beginners, low intermediate and advanced learners of English. You have to commit to 3hours teaching a week in the evening, 7-8:30 pm and provide at least 50 hours of tutoring in total. We use an online program that allows students to work at home after the lessons. No need to prepare lessons in advance, but you can add your own activities.
