The Ysleta Young Women's Leadership Academy is the only FREE, all girl, college preparatory public school in West Texas. YWLA opened in the 2016-2017 school year with 125 6th grade girls and 98 7th grade girls adding a new 6th-grade cohort and every year after. When at capacity, we will have grades 6-12 (middle school and high school). Our young women are exceeding academic expectations and proving all students, regardless of their background or socio-economic status, can excel if given the right opportunity. Our school has a foundation of STEAM curriculum with a focus on our core values: Responsible Leadership, College and Career Readiness, and Wellness Life Skills. This volunteer intern will play a key role in helping support our college prep, leadership and girl empowerment programs by fulling the following duties... Volunteer Intern Role: Assist in fundraising and event organizing. Assist with developing content for social media, email newsletters and website Aid in designing promotional materials. Be active in community relations and outreach events. Raise awareness of the organization by distributing brochures and flyers Attend events and meetings as needed and report the proceedings. Spread the word with community members. Answer phone calls and provide good customer service. Draft letters and memos as well as grant writing Assist with planning fundraising events. If bilingual help translating written and verbal communications and documents. Help in office management and record keeping. Help with event logistics for girl empowerment events. Recruit community partners and volunteers. Take photos at special events. Requirements: A passion for our mission! Must be actively enrolled in an accredited college or university and in good standing. Must be comfortable with Zoom and Microsoft Office products Ability to work in a team environment but also work strong independently. Ability to be organized and detailed to balance several projects simultaneously. Must be able to maintain confidentiality. Must be 18 years of age or older. Skills preferred: Bilingual, social media, writing, creative thinking, critical analysis , curiosity, making connections

Through the Girl Empowerment Fellowship, college students and recent graduates gain leadership experience, develop communication skills, build career expertise, practice public speaking skills and learn presentation and facilitation techniques. Our girl empowerment fellows share their talents and utilize these skills as they serve as role models and mentors in creating and leading girl empowerment programs for pre-teen and teen girls enrolled in the Young Women’s Leadership Academy. Responsibilities include: Serving as a mentor and role models for youth Hosting special events for youth Organizing girl empowerment conferences Developing and implementing girl empowerment curriculum Assisting with recruiting volunteers and guest speakers Helping obtain in-kind items and donations for special events Assisting with fundraisers and event sponsorships Preparing promotional materials Presenting informative workshops to community groups Creating a leadership training program Facilitating girl talk presentations in the community Developing collaborations with local youth organizations Guiding girls in college preparation process Organizing field trips and guest speakers Garnering in-kind and volunteer support for events Assisting with volunteer orientations and trainings Fellows commit to at least 10-20 hours a week over at least a semester; scheduling is flexible. Class credit is available upon request.

Are you committed to sharing your time and talents to helping the next generation of young women leaders? Our Young Women's Preparatory Network team is looking for innovative women leaders who are dedicated to promoting the education and empowerment of local young women. Our advisory board members champion the importance of higher education and promote our pillars of college and career readiness, leadership, wellness and STEAM education. Our advisory board members are active advocates and ambassadors for our mission and are fully engaged in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary to support organizational goals. Advisory Board members assists in planning and implementing fundraising events, serve as community ambassadors, help with community outreach, recruit board members and volunteers, and take an active part in soliciting funds, in-kind goods and services. Promotes our programs and service to the community at large. Advisory board members will attend scheduled monthly board meetings, serve on special committees, and attend special events when possible. Advisory board members contribute time, talent, financial support, community contacts and expertise as needed to promote our mission. Prior volunteer leadership experience, participation in philanthropic activities, and an understanding of non-profit management is preferred. Prior service on a non profit board is suggested but not required. Serving on the board is a powerful way to help empower local girls, while building your own skills and expertise. Individuals who serve on a board have the opportunity to develop and grow as leaders, cultivate new skill sets, and expand their network of peers, professionals, community leaders, and community thought leaders. Friends of YWLA is a membership-based group made up of women who want to make a difference in the lives of girls at the Young Women’s Leadership Academy. This auxiliary group supports YWLA’s mission by creating awareness, raising funds and serving as an event volunteer base. Being a part of the Friends of YWLA group is an engaging and enriching way to make an impact to help empower and educate local girls. Each member chooses which areas they are interested in serving. Friends of YWLA provides its members the flexibility and opportunity to share their energy and talents at their own pace, so they can make a difference in our community. ADMIN SUPPORT Assist with office support by filing, conducting research, answering phones, serving as a front office greeter, running errands, and keeping the office organized. YWLA is looking for individuals interested in dedicating a specific amount of time each week or month (3 or more hours) to help us with administrative activities. YWLA CARES COMMITTEE Provide in kind donation coordination by gathering basic need donations for students with items such as jackets, shoes, and backpacks. Help organize teacher resource room, maintain the uniform donation room, organize donation items, and contact teachers to arrange for timely dispersal of those donations. Post new donation needs on Friends of YWLA Facebook group. MARKETING & OUTREACH COMMITTEE The duties of this committee include: (1)help create promotional material (2) participate in community events to raise awareness of YWLA and ways to get involved (3) coordinate media coverage of public events of the corporation in collaboration with corporation staff, (4) develop a Speaker’s Bureau made up of Friends of YWLA members who shall provide community organizations, agencies, groups and institutions with information about the corporation’s various fundraising activities and other events. SPECIAL EVENTS & FUNDRAISING COMMITTEE Do you enjoy planning gatherings? Do you have contacts in the community? This might be the place for you! Volunteers assist YWLA staff by joining special event committees, assisting with sponsorships, and planning fundraising events to support YWLA.

Education is one of the most important gifts we can give today's youth and it is a gift that benefits not only the student but the entire community. Our Scholarship program supports local young women in pursuing higher education by providing college scholarships, sponsoring college field trips, mentoring girls in the college application process and funding books and school supplies for scholars. Many of the students who have received Young Women’s Preparatory Network Scholarships are the first in their families to attend college. The students who receive our Scholarship to attend college will one day be our future community leaders. Help us to expand and evolve the work of the committee; to build and engage a network of scholarship alumnae, to help to grow the number of scholarships, to support scholarships on their college journey and to impact our young members pursuit of higher education. This committee hosts an annual scholarship fundraising drive, which culminates in providing scholarships for local students. WHY VOLUNTEER WITH THE SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE Help deserving students pursue their dreams of higher education. Mentor and provide guidance to high school students on their college application process Bring your creativity and ideas to be part of the scholarship & mentoring planning process. Change the trajectory of first-generation college students. Opportunity to lead and improve leadership skills while building a subcommittee of volunteers working on project initiatives and tasks. Grow your network and advocate for the next generation of like-minded women. Responsibilities: As a member of the Scholarship Committee, you would assist in support and outreach of our mission, including awarding of scholarships to young women graduating high school and obtaining a college education. Activities include organizing the luncheon fundraising event, organizing benefit days, partnering with potential sponsors, helping coordinate a Scholarship In Honor Program, developing other fundraising initiatives, assisting with publicity, and maintaining connections with scholarship entities. Skills/Qualifications: Interest in performing a wide variety of tasks such as: event planning, sponsor recruitment/solicitation, fund raising, graphic design, photography, videography, brainstorming, marketing; Understanding of and deep passion for empowering young women - key to our mission Strong and effective communication skills; Ability to build connections - with funders/donors, schools, youth, partners Strong team work & collaboration skills - with the belief that team work and collaboration are effective ways of getting things done; Flexibility; Ability to work on/follow-through on tasks in-between committee meetings; Like to have fun.
